What an Artist Press Kit Should Include
An artist press kit gives journalists, promoters and partners accurate information and approved assets in one place: biography, current release, photographs, links, notable work and a working contact.
An artist press kit should give journalists, promoters, curators and partners everything they need to understand and present the artist accurately: a concise biography, details of the current project, approved photographs, listening and viewing links, notable performances or achievements and a contact who responds. It should be current, easy to share and quick to read.
For artists and managers in Ghana, a well-prepared press kit saves time with every request and reduces the risk of names, credits or facts being reported incorrectly.
Biography
Prepare two versions: a short biography of around 50 words and a longer one of around 250 words. Write in the third person. Include the artist's name as it should be printed, where they are from or based, their genre or practice, and the most relevant facts about their work. Avoid claims that cannot be verified.
Current project
Describe the release, tour or project the artist is promoting now. Include the title, release date, credits, collaborators and a short note on the story behind it. Journalists need a reason to cover the artist now, not only a general introduction.
Photographs
Include a small selection of high-resolution, rights-cleared photographs in landscape and portrait formats, with the photographer's credit. Add a recent live performance image if the artist performs. Make sure the images reflect the artist's current identity.
Listening and viewing links
Provide links to the artist's music on streaming platforms, official videos and selected live performances. Check that every link works and points to official profiles.
Notable work
List significant releases, performances, collaborations, awards or press coverage, with dates. Keep it factual. A short, accurate list is more credible than a long one with vague claims.
Quotes
Include one or two quotes from the artist about the current project, and properly attributed quotes from press or collaborators if available.
Technical and booking information
For artists who perform, include basic information promoters need: line-up, typical set length and a contact for technical requirements and bookings.
Contact details
Name the person who handles press, bookings and partnerships, with an email address and phone number that are monitored. A press kit with an unanswered contact loses opportunities.
Social profiles
List official social media accounts so people tag the right profiles.
Format and maintenance
Share the press kit as a web page or a single, organised folder link, with a downloadable PDF for those who prefer it. Assign someone to update it whenever there is a new release, new photographs or new achievements. Outdated information can travel quickly once published.
