Producing Research Content for an International Partner: HEMU/HES-SO

How PR369 served as Ghana-based production partner for the Swiss research project Traditional Ghanaian Rhythms, coordinating local production and capturing multi-camera video and location audio.

PR369 (Premier 369) served as the Ghana-based production partner for Traditional Ghanaian Rhythms: Sources for Modern Use, a research project by HEMU/HES-SO in Switzerland. PR369 coordinated local production and captured professional multi-camera video and location audio featuring Ghanaian musicians and cultural specialists. The recordings contributed to educational resources developed for musicians, educators and students internationally.

The project

The research project documents traditional Ghanaian rhythms as sources for modern musical practice. It required high-quality recordings of Ghanaian musicians and cultural specialists, captured in a way that would serve research and education.

PR369's role

  • Local production coordination
  • Professional multi-camera video capture
  • Location audio recording
  • Working with Ghanaian musicians and cultural specialists

What local production partnership involves

International research and cultural projects rely on a local partner who can:

  1. Identify and coordinate participants, including musicians and cultural specialists
  2. Arrange locations, permissions and logistics
  3. Assemble crew and equipment suitable for research-quality recordings
  4. Capture audio and video to the standard the project requires
  5. Respect participants and their knowledge, with appropriate consent and credit
  6. Deliver organised material that the partner can use

Why documentation matters

Well-documented cultural knowledge has lasting value for education, research and future creative work. It also helps make the case for investment in the creative sector. See why Ghana's creative economy needs better data.

Related work with HEMU

PR369's Swiss-Ghana Jazz Experience work for HEMU included cultural exchange coordination, a concert with Alliance Française and the Swiss Embassy, and a documentary film.

Lessons for international partners

  1. Agree the purpose and technical standards before production
  2. Work with a local partner who knows the people, places and protocols
  3. Plan consent, credit and rights carefully
  4. Budget for audio quality, which matters as much as video
